Engine.

The sporty powertrain as fitted to the series MINI John Cooper Works model provided the ideal basis for the development of a high performance power unit for competition.

The engine as found under the bonnet of the MINI John Cooper Works Challenge is a 1.6-litre inline four-cylinder unit fitted with a twin scroll turbocharger and direct fuel injection. It produces 155kW/211bhp. In order to achieve sporty levels of performance the characteristics of the engine were optimised: Its maximum torque of 260Nm is delivered between 1,850 and 5,700 revolutions, making it accessible across the rev range.

On overboost this increases to 280Nm. With its power to weight ratio of 5.09kg, the MINI John Cooper Works Challenge is up there with high performance sports cars.
