MINI John Cooper Works.

MINI John Cooper Works

Racing is in our blood.

A string of successes, including two Formula One Constructors' titles and three victories at the legendary Rally Monte Carlo. One part of this success story bears the name John Cooper – a motorsport legend whose fame is immortal.

However, the Brit was not only a hero on the racetrack, but also a brilliant design engineer. In 1946, father and son – John Cooper was 23 years old at the time – formed the Cooper Car Company. In 1959 and 1960 Cooper Car Company racing cars won the Formula One Constructors' and Drivers' titles. In the 1960s his passionate work ethic and endless creativity heralded a new era of racing car mechanics, in which he laid the foundations for John Cooper Works. Then came the age of the iconic Mini Cooper.

With this degree of success in mind, it is no wonder that some big name racing drivers also began their career in a Mini: as well as Niki Lauda, Formula One champions Graham Hill, Jackie Stewart, John Surtees, Jochen Rindt and James Hunt all gained their first race experience in the classic Mini. Most of them remained in personal contact with John Cooper and were always happy to offer Cooper feedback on the Mini's performance, thus allowing him to continue improving the car.

Designed for top performances.

In 1960, Cooper proposed the construction of a racing car based on the Mini. He was subsequently the driving force behind the Mini Cooper S as it achieved one top sporting performance after another: in the 1960s, the "Three Musketeers" Paddy Hopkirk, Timo Mäkinen and Rauno Aaltonen conquered the rallying world and celebrated breathtaking victories at the Rally Monte Carlo in the Mini Cooper S. The Mini not only shone on the rally scene, however. In the 1960s it also achieved countless triumphs on street circuits.

Today's MINI John Cooper Works models are completely in keeping with the John Cooper tradition. They make the fans' hearts miss a beat and set their drivers' pulses racing. John Cooper Works packages are tailored to raw driving desire and designed for dynamic top performances.

MINI Heritage.

MINI has motorsport in its genes. While Alec Issigonis, credited with creating the classic Mini, concentrated primarily on the every-day suitability of the car, his friend and business partner John Cooper immediately sensed potential of a different kind when he first saw the initial sketches: in this novel small production car the successful racing car constructor recognised the basis for a promising sporty vehicle, and zealously set about converting the Mini…
